Westyn Hughes was smooth and fast all the way through Rodeo Austin to earn his first title there and second Texas Swing win of his career.
After an 8.1 in Round 1 and 7.6 in Round 2, Hughes had a huge lead in the Average, but that did not change his game plan in the Finals, where he was 8.6 to take first and seal the win in style.
“Generally, when you change what you’ve been doing, you slow down, a guy kind of tends to mess up so tonight I was just going to try to do my deal,” Hughes said.
The No. 10 tie-down roper in the World joins the list of those battling injuries while on the road. For Hughes he says it is part of it and he has to do his job.
He did his job in a big way in Austin when his time on three head was 24.3 seconds to cinch him the win by 4.8 seconds. Sterling Smith, Zack Jongbloed, Hunter Herrin and Clint Singleton made up the rest of the Top 5 in Austin.
