Clayton Smith Wins Round 5 of CFR With Fastest Tie-Down Roping Time of Rodeo

It took until Round 5, but Clayton Smith notched the first tie-down roping time in the 7s during the CFR with a 7.6 on Saturday night.

Smith had won a check in the previous three rounds before breaking through with a round win. He was a full second faster than second-place Beau Coooper.

“It might’ve been a lot of luck, actually,” Smith said. “I actually missed my slack, had to get it last second and he turned around and I just stuck a wrap and a hooey on him.”

Going into the final performance, Haven Meged is still in control as he has a lead of more than $12,000 and also is sitting first in the Average.
