Brady Tryan/Calgary Smith Take Control of Canadian Team Roping Race with Saturday Sweep at CFR

After finishing second in Rounds 1 and 2, Brady Tryan/Calgary Smith stopped the clock at an arena-record 3.5 seconds in Round 3 of the CFR Friday.

Turns out they were just getting started.

On Saturday, they struck for runs of 4.0 seconds and 4.1 seconds to win Rounds 4 and 5 outright, make almost $19,000 apiece and take over first place in the CFR Average.

They are now in a position where all they need to do is catch on Sunday to win the Canadian Championship. They’ve yet to think about backing off, however.

“I do not back off,” Smith said after Round 5. “Like I said earlier, when they turn that fast, I just throw my rope at the ground and they go in it.”

The pair entered with $28,656 apiece and have made $39,498 each during the CFR alone. All five of their times have been 4.7 seconds or faster.
