Cole Walker is the No. 1 ranked steer wrestler in the Resistol Rookie Race and he continues to further his lead. This week, a huge Texas Swing win adds to it and makes Walker your Resistol Rookie Athlete of the Week.
Walker kicked things off with a 3.7-second run in Round 1 that was good enough to be second. It was a run that would go on to be worth $5,700 by itself. His 5.0-second run in Round 2 was out of the Go-Round money but San Angelo was an Average game in the timed events and Walker came back to the Final Round sitting third in the Average behind Don Payne and Matt Reeves.
The Final Round was make or break for Walker and the Texas cowboy threw down to be 4.1 seconds and split the Final Round win. This made his time on three head a blazing 12.8 to tie with the great Matt Reeves. The Average paid out over $9,000 to both Walker and Reeves but Walker reaped the benefits as he now sits at No. 18 in the PRCA World Standings.
Walker has a clear lead in the Resistol Rookie Race as he has racked up over $23,500 while the No. 2 ranked rookie steer wrestler, Ty Bauerle comes in at $15,800. Walker is about $1,700 out of the Top 15 with the California Run underway. He is riding a wave of momentum after the last Texas Swing rodeo win became his and he claimed this week’s Resistol Rookie Athlete of the Week title.
