World Champion Breakaway Roper Jackie Crawford has collected an impressive list of accomplishments since launching her professional rodeo career in 2006. She has won 23 Gold Buckles in the WPRA, the second most all time and been instrumental in advancing the sport of breakawy roping to where it is today.
Yet, it was the prestigious RodeoHouston title that remained a goal for Crawford and with a 3.7-second run in the Championship Shoot Out, she achieved just that.
Crawford, who was the only cowgirl to handle the pressure and a notch a qualified time in the Shootout, said this is one she desperately wanted to win before her career ended.
“This is one of those dream come trues, I watched my husband win this rodeo and so to get to win it, hopefully our kids get to win it one day, so this is definitely a bucket list. I’m not gonna ProRodeo much longer and I said ‘I will not quit until I try to get Houston under my belt,’” she said. “This is one of the coolest atmospheres we ever get to rodeo in and my goodness, to take home the saddle and the buckle is so awesome.”
Securing victory not only earned Crawford a season altering check of $55,250 but also earned the Texas cowgirl the title of Montana Silversmiths WPRA Athlete of the Week. As recently as 2018, Crawford finished as one of the top breakway ropers in the world with less than $20,000 in season earnings.
This year, her earnings have already past the $75,000 mark and Crawford is well on her way to clinching her fourth qualification for the National Finals Breakaway Roping.
