Garrett Shadolbt will miss an extended period of time after breaking his fibula tubing down the Niobrara River in Nebraska.
“It is a pretty uneven bottom and I hopped in and landed right on a rock. I’m supposed to find out today when I can have surgery and I’m hoping it is this week,” the bareback rider told ProRodeo.com. “Once I get surgery, it will probably be six to eight weeks to heal up. I’m hoping to be back out there the second half of July. It definitely wasn’t a good time to have this happen.”
Shadbolt’s last two seasons have been the best of his career. In 2021, he finished No. 5 in the world and made $192,919, which is still a career high in both. In 2022, he finished No. 13 and banked just over $151,000. He has finished in the Top 25 in ProRodeo each of the last four seasons.
This year, Shadbolt is No. 12 in the world and has notched wins at the Bucking Battle in Bismarck (North Dakota) and the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo (Colorado).
