Nelson Wyatt held the No. 1 spot on the head side of team roping for a large portion of the regular season and while he was eventually caught, he still will enter his second NFR in the No. 3 position after a great season
BIGGEST PAYDAYS
RodeoHouston, $26,000
Wyatt closed down a terrific Texas Swing with a great showing at RodeoHouston. Roping wuth Justin Davis, Wyatt failed to place in the opening two rounds, but made up for lost time with a Round 3 win to advance out of his Super Series before a Semifinal win banked another $3,000 and sealed a spot on Championship Sunday. In the Finals, he and Davis would place second with a time of 9.9 seconds. That run alone would earn him $20,000 of the $26,000 he earned total at the rodeo.
NFR Open (Colorado), $24,724
Wyatt and partner Tyler Worley dominated the NFR Open from beginning to end. In Round 1, they stopped the clock at 5.8 seconds to get the round win and would follow that up with a fourth-place finish in Round 2, which was good enough to advance them to the Semifinals and earn them $5,666 each for winning he two-head Average in the Qualifying Rounds. In the Finals, the pair went 4.4 seconds to claim the NFR Open title.
FASTEST RUNS
San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, 3.6 Seconds
Roping with Justin Davis, Wyatt took back-to-back rounds at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo with the second run being the fastest of his season at 3.6 seconds. The run earned Wyatt $2,500 and a spot in the Finals, where he and Davis would tie for second. They brought in $14,500 total from the event.
Texas Circuit Finals, 3.7 Seconds
Wyatt posted his second-fastest run of the season at the Texas Circuit Finals where he went 3.7 seconds. Along with partner, Tyler Worley, Wyatt would go on to win the Circuit Finals after going 19.7 seconds on four head.
Puyallup Cinch Playoffs (Washington), 3.8 Seconds
With partner Trey Yates, Wyatt turned in a 3.8-second run to best some of the best in the world in the Second Round of the Cinch Playoffs. The win paid them $3,300 apiece.
NOTABLE WINS
Lawton Rangers Rodeo (Oklahoma), 10.0 Seconds on Two
With yet another different partner, this one came in August with Chase Tryan as his heeler. Wyatt won rodeos with a total of three different partners this season, and that does not include the $40,000+ he won during the Texas Swing while roping with Davis.
BigFork Summer ProRodeo (Montana), 10.0 Seconds
Wyatt opened the rodeo with a second-place finish in Round 1 and placed fifth in the Second Round. The two runs would be good enough to win the Average at the rodeo by three tenths.
