Shane Hanchey Cracks Top 5 as he Qualifies for 14th Straight NFR

Shane Hanchey is on the hunt for a second World Title as he sits No. 4 int he PRCA Tie-Down Roping World Standings after a huge summer on AQHA Tie-Down Roping Horse of the Year Bugsy.

Hanchey has finished inside the Top 15 now 14 times in his career since 2008 and is keeping his momentum going as he secured titles at the Clovis Rodeo, Greeley Stampede, Utah Days of ’47 Rodeo and more, bringing his total earnings for the regular season to $165,660.

BIGGEST PAYDAYS

Utah Days of ’47 Rodeo, $18,202

Hanchey collected a notable check at the Utah Days of ’47 Rodeo where he claimed the Gold Medal in Salt Lake City. An aggregate time of 16.1 seconds secured Hanchey the No. 2 spot in the Average in the Progressive Round to then advance into Round 3 where he locked in a winning time of 7.7 seconds to secure a position in the Gold Medal Round. A 7.9-second in the Finals got him the No. 1 spot.

Clovis Rodeo (California), $12,906

The Clovis Rodeo was a lucrative stop on the Louisiana cowboy as he finished in the Top 2 in each of the first three rounds on his way to a rodeo win to close Apri. An aggregate time of 38.4 seconds secured Hanchey the No. 1 spot in the Average by almost two full seconds over fellow NFR qualifier Ty Harris.

FASTEST RUNS

Fiesta Days Rodeo (Utah), 7.4 Seconds

Hanchey turned in his fastest run of the season in late July at the Fiesta Days Rodeo where he stopped the clock at 7.4 seconds to split the No. 2 spot with fellow tie-down roper Hagen Houck. Hanchey was sitting at No. 5 in the World Standing at the time with $118,855 in earnings.

Oakley Independence Day Rodeo (Utah), 7.6 Seconds

A 7.6-second run paid him almost $4,000 as part of a Cowboy Christmas in which he also won the St. Paul Rodeo.

NOTABLE WINS

Greeley Stampede (Colorado), 25.2 Seconds on Three

An aggregate time of 25.2 seconds secured Hanchey the No. 1 spot in the Average at the Greeley Stampede after an 8.3-second run in the Final Round sealed the win and a payday that totaled more than $8,500. Taylor Santos, Shad Mayfield, Riley Webb and Ty Harris rounded out the remaining spots in the Top 5 in Greeley.

St. Paul Rodeo (Oregon), 17.3 Seconds on Two

Although Hanchey failed to place within the Top 5 in either round of the St. Paul Rodeo, his consistency paid off as he finished first in the Average with a time of 17.3 seconds on two head. Hanchey secured the win at St. Paul in 2015 as well.
