The Cowboy Channel is proud to present the re-broadcast of original episodes of the “The Roy Rogers Show!” The show stars Rogers, Dale Evans, Pat Brady, and beloved animal cast members, Trigger (Roger’s Palomino horse), and Bullet (his German Shepherd).
Debuting in 1951 on NBC, “The Roy Rogers Show” filmed six seasons (105 total episodes) at Sam Goldwyn Studios and Iverson Movie Ranch in Los Angeles, California. At the same time as the television show aired, a similar radio show that focused more on Roger’s music was also produced and aired. CBS later bought the rights to the program, but it now lives in the public domain.
While most westerns filmed in the same era are set in the Old West, “The Roy Rogers Show” takes place in the fictional town of Mineral City during the present-day 1950s. Some episodes focus on classic western themes like chasing down bank robbers and fights between cattlemen and homesteaders, but others have more modern themes and usually harken back to lessons rooted in Christian values. The show never attempts to explain the odd combination of classic western characters and the present-day setting.
The show’s theme song, “Happy Trails” was written by Dale Evans and performed by her and Rogers over the credits at the end of every episode.
The show was nominated for an Emmy in 1955 for Best Western or Adventure Show.
